Points of Articulation - Your Action Figure Review!

Hmmm, I may have to work on that banner . . .

Anyway, welcome to what I hope will be a semi-regular column on action figures here on Waiting For Wednesday. Why semi-regular? Well, for the most part, I'd like to review figures that I actually have in hand - and unless my cash flow improves considerably or Gambit898 can convince Toy Biz and DC Direct to send me some swag, obviously I won't be able to buy everything I'd like.

I will try to keep you updated with info and pictures about new toy releases, mostly Marvel Legends and DC Direct since that's what I collect, supplemented with a heathy dose of opinion and commentary. I'm also going to try to keep things current, by reviewing newly-released figures, or topical, by looking at figures or toys that tie-in to weekly comic releases. Whew! - wish me luck!

My philosophy on toys is simple: take 'em out of the package. Yes, I'd even open that Spider-Man Classics yellow-costume Daredevil, if only I could swing $100+ to get one on eBay. Oooh, or the Cyborg Superman with 21 points of articulation - and that's a lot for DC Direct - also going for a similar sum. How about that active camo Master Chief from Halo 2? Or an NHL Series 1 Curtis Joseph wearing the blue-and-white of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Or, or, or . . . Pardon me, I can be a bit geeky when it comes to action figures. But I really do think you should play with your toys, open those packages, and display them proudly. After all, once your collection grows to a certain size, you just cannot keep hiding all of them when a date is coming over . . . I figure I'm getting close to that delicate balance when a collection goes from nerdy yet still amusing to creepy and disturbing. I won't tell if you won't. That's not to say I've opened everything. Since I have a small apartment, space is at a premium. So my closets are filled with boxes of toys that I haven't opened - yet! I'm not trying to toot my own horn, my collection is pretty small compared to some others I've seen online, I'm just saying that in a small apartment, too much of anything can be a little overwhelming.

If you have any suggestions for the column, questions, comments, or perhaps a figure you'd like me to take a look at, let me know! I hope you like the column and everything else here at Waiting For Wednesday!

Uli
